Meet the Team
Our goal is to ensure that the building process is rewarding and enjoyable. We take great pride in our ability to provide a process that is straightforward and efficient, with enough flexibility that you can build a truly custom home, rather than just picking from a few cookie cutter styles.
Barry O’Meara
Founder & CEO
Barry was an Electrical Engineer, helping to build some of the world’s first computers, in the 1970’s, when he started building houses as a side project. Eventually, he was so successful building houses that he quit his engineering job and became a full-time builder. He still has a hard time believing that he had enough guts to take the leap from his cushy engineering job when he had several children to feed and interest rates were sky-high. He remembers living in constant fear of failure for the first 20 years of his building career.
The success of O’Meara Custom Building, Inc. afforded him the opportunity to branch off into land development, rental properties, and commercial real estate. But home building remains the most satisfying aspect of his career, because he can drive down the streets and see the beautiful homes he built. He can stop and chat with the satisfied homeowners that he has built for. Most importantly, Barry wants to pass on this legacy to his children and grandchildren. “The building business has been great for me. I don’t regret a single day of it. I just hope that my grandchildren will be able to have the same opportunities as I did.”
Barry lives in Roseville in the same house that he built for his young family in 1980. It is located in a neighborhood where he developed the property and built many homes, so he has neighbors on all sides who purchased homes from him. They are all happy with their homes and they love the tight-knit neighborhood that he created.
Brendan O’Meara
CFO
Brendan started in the family construction business when he was a little kid, helping to sweep up sawdust and pick up scraps of lumber. Eventually he was promoted to drain-tile digger. Growing up in the family business taught Brendan the joy of hard work and the importance of craftsmanship at every stage of the construction process.
After continuing to work in construction through college, Brendan has spent the last decade working in commercial banking where he learned the intricacies of finance side of the construction industry. Brendan still finds great satisfaction in working construction, because “I could see the fruits of my labor at the end of every day.” Nothing makes you feel better than to stand up at the end of a long day, covered in dirt and sweat and dust, looking over a completed project and knowing that you had a hand in building it. I want my daughters to have the same opportunities to get their hands dirty and feel the joy of creating something beautiful, that is why I want to continue my father’s legacy.”
Brendan finds great satisfaction in making homeowners dreams come true. That is why he constantly strives for thoughtful design and superior craftsmanship.
Brendan has an MBA from the Carlson School of Management and lives in Arden Hills.
